This would cause him to create a split personality and become the Batman foe Two-Face. What he is most known for is being the gangster that threw acid into the face of Harvey Dent causing him to have a psychotic break. In Batman lore, Maroni has been around since 1942 and is famous for creating another villain. Throughout the film, Sal Maroni is name-dropped a lot as a major player in the drug game in Gotham before he was taken down. He has a framed newspaper with the headline on his wall. Mayor Mitchell seems proud of the fact that mobster Sal Maroni was brought down during his tenure. For a time it’s thought that The Riddler could be the culprit until he is confronted by the Holiday Killer but is left alive. In the story, a mysterious killer starts on Halloween and then kills another Falcone mob family member on each major holiday thereafter. This brings back memories of the classic Batman story The Long Halloween. The story begins the film with the murder of Gotham Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. In it, we see that Gotham is out celebrating the holiday, and kids are dressed up ready to get candy. Director Matt Reeves obviously has a rich appreciating of Batman’s comic lore, and he stuffed the film to the brim with all sorts of references to Batman’s past. So far, the reaction has been almost universally positive, with most fans in our recent “ What Did You Think of The Batman” article saying it ranks with the best of the Bat-franchise. With the release of Matt Reeve’s The Batman this weekend, fans flocked to theaters to see what the Caped Crusader would be up to this time. One thing is for sure though, if you bring Batman to the big screen fans will follow. Many comic book fans would agree that Marvel seems to have found the winning formula for bringing their characters to the big screen while DC has taken a different, perhaps more adventurous approach, albeit one that’s produced mixed results.
